About John Expertise I am only too familiar with the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) formerly neurosis. I understand the various treatments available and medication therapies being used and other co-existent problems along side OCD. I can help you identify it in yourself and in others and where to get help.
Experience I correctly identified it in a family member when it was still though to be a rare illness. I later identified it in my daughters classmate and some co-workers. One of which kept being fired because of it. I have watched the progression of the disease and the areas it creeps into and the effect of medications on it on a person. If you see it in a person especially a child you need to intervene quickly. I did and now the one child just graduated magna cum laude at a state university.
Publications I would suggest a separate heading for this disorder under the heading of Obessive Compulsive Disorder.

Is this Curable
Answer Jamal, you must see a psychiatrist and perhaps get a referral from your primary care doctor to see one. Only a psychiatrist will be able to tell for sure if you have OCD. It is treatable with medications and with behavioral modification therapy. These have both been used sucessfully to get your life in order and get your mind off of washing continually. People with OCD can be washers, checkers or hoarders as are three general categories. You may be a washer. No matttter how many times you wash you never feel really clean. The medications will help stop these compulsions to wash. You may also need something for anxiety like Xanax or Valium. Your doctor will be able to prescribe these for you. You cannot stop taking any of these medicines just before you feel better or think you are cured. The sooner you act on this advice the better it will be for you. Psychiatrists see people with OCD everyday just like they see people suffering from depression everyday. We know a lot more about OCD todasy than we did 20 years ago. There are many medications that are used to treat it today. If you have bad side effects then let your doctor know by calling him on the phone. He can change you to another medicine that may be more well tolerated for you.
