Subject: frustrating obsession

Question
Dr. Martin,

I have an obsession that is driving those around me to presume there is something wrong with me.
I have one thing I am stubbornly obsessive about, that is going to bed at night in a clean bed. Than means that my spouse must shower before going to bed. If he doesn't, I can't sleep there untill the sheets and blankets have been washed. If anyone uses my pillow I have to buy a new one. I just don't like sharing a pillow with someone elses hair gel, spray or makeup, etc. I have always been this way.
Tonight, I got angry with my husband, he came home from work and lay in bed for a nap. After getting up, he takes a shower, I told his why bother, he has already gone to bed dirty and where now does he think I am supposed to sleep as I am not doing laundry at 10 at night.
Is this unreasonable or do I need to talk to my Dr.?
Much thanks for your consideration
Lisa

Answer
Hi Lisa,

I am sorry to hear that obsession is driving you nuts. Yes I think you should address it with your doctor regards to your condition and maybe OCD??  It could be something else because it is only thing you have this "cleanliness" obsessional thoughts. It could be paranoid thing.  It is wise idea to speak with your doctor.

You have a nice day.

Doc Jerry
