AboutBrenda Expertise I have been an R.N. since 1988 and come from a family of nurses. I have clinical experience in labor and delivery, as well as post-partum care and pre-term pregnancy complications. I have also worked in Community Health Clinics dealing with this area of expertise, including WIC (Women, Infant, & Children) clinics performing nursing evaluations and assessments in determining a need for services or intervention for pregnant women, newborns, and young children. I have worked in immunization clinics in and around my community as well. I also have several years experience in OB and Pediatric Home Care Nursing. In addition to that, I am a mother of two, ages 21 and 16, both of which I had hoped would be vaginal deliveries, but ended up being C-Sections... one of which had me in pre-term labor...another which was frank breech (bottom first)... one who rejected the breast... and so on... to list my personal experience would be a bit lengthy! I'd simply like to help anyone who might have a question or concern that I can draw on my expertise to answer!

Question QUESTION: Hi, I am 23 weeks and 6 days pregnant, my due date is July 21. My period was the 10th of October, but before that it came on the 3rd of July and August. i had sex with 2 guys 1 on the 15th of October and the other on a regular basis afterward. The doctor told me my conception date was the 28th of October. Would that be correct? Do you always ovulate when the doctor says you do? I really need to know, so i can figure out who the father is? Which one do you think it is?
ANSWER: Dear Nicole,
Women typically ovulate 14 days before the onset of the next period. So, if you have regular 28 day cycles, it is not difficult to determine when ovulation takes place. Plus - I will assume that your due dating has been confirmed via ultrasound, which is actually more reliable than LMP dating if done in the 1st trimester. Therefore, if your due date has been determined to be 7/21, that does indicate an approximate conception date of 10/29. If you know you were having unprotected sex within a day or two of that date - it is quite likely that person is the father.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.

QUESTION: well i had an ultrasound done in December and they said my due date would be July 16. i came on my period regularly every month on the 3rd except in October it came on the 10th but it was not light it was heavy. and i had just took a pregnancy test before my period that came out negative. so by the July 16th due date could it be the guy i slept with on the 15th of October or my boyfriend who i had sex with regularly?
Answer Dear Nicole,
Again, even the date given by the ultrasound indicates a conception date on/after 10/24. This would pretty much rule out the 10/15 conception date. And the December ultrasound would have been within your 1st trimester, so it would have been considered quite accurate in determining gestational dating.
