ObGyn/Pregnancy issues - I am freaking out because something is wrong with my uterus!!!!!!!!

Question
OK, I am a 22 year old female of 4 children. I gave birth to my youngest baby 8 months ago. I have always had normal periods every 29/30 days or so and bleed about 5 days. Well, since about 2 months after I had my baby, I began having pain with intercourse. It mainly came on with orgasm. I had dealt with the pain every now and then for about 4½ months. Then the pain has seemed to subside. Since I have noticed the pain has pretty much stopped, my periods are becoming irregular. In August I began my period on Aug. 29th. Bleed about 5 days, then 4 days after my bleeding stopped, I began bleeding/spotting again for only a day (first time I had ever experienced "spotting between periods". Then in September. I had my period on Sept. 28th, but this time it was VERY abnormal. I began bleeding, and my flow was a dark deep red color and thick like. I bleed like that for 2 days only. Then it stopped and I began spotting 2 days later for only 1 day. This time it was a brown looking color and not very much. I started my period for this month, today October 26th. When I noticed I was bleeding earlier, I wiped and it was like a glob of deep red blood with a little bit of mucus. So I put on a pad and went later to change it and there was only a small spot on the pad and it was a brown color again. I took a shower and I have noticed that it has completely stopped again. I would like to note that In september I went to see my family doctor with concerns of the pain I was having and he did a few tests. ( gonorrhea and chlamydia test, an ultrasound test specified for irregular bleeding and pain with intercourse, blood work - [complete rainbow - blood count, liver enzyme, thyroid, pregnancy, and a few more I do not remember], A urinary xray, and a pelvic exam)   All the tests came back completely normal except the pelvic exam and the xray. He come to the conclusion that I had alot of stool in my left colon and that was what was causing the pain and prescribed me stool softener's [which indeed, made the pain with sex go away], and then the pelvic exam, he noted that my cervix was open and that my uterus felt slightly enlarged. But after the ultrasound came back normal, he just stated to me that My cervix was open and slightly enlarged due to the fact that I had 4 children, [3 of which were back to back pregnancies, and I was also 6½ months postpartum at the time].

What I would like to kno, is what is causing my abnormal and almost vanishing periods?

I had a about 5 normal periods since my son was born and then all of a sudden they are out of wack. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS.

My children were born;

#1 January 2003
#2 April 2006
#3 September 2007
#4 February 2009.

Answer
Hi Amie,

If all the tests came back normal, then you're most likely suffering from a hormonal imbalance.

When estrogen and progesterone levels do not balance. The gonadotrophin releasing hormone, also affects the functioning of the hypothalamus which in turn affects the pituitary gland, which then affects the ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus. Stress reduction, exercise and improved diet will help. Increasing the intake of foods rich in omega-3 and omega-6 will help maintain a good hormonal balance. The omega-3 can be found in flax seeds, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds. Omega-6 can be found in eggs, nuts and poultry. Also taking Macafem improves hormone levels. Good luck!
