ObGyn/Pregnancy issues - Pimple

Question
Hi,

I'm sorry this question doesn't have to do with pregnancy but I saw you were a gyn for awhile. I'm 20 and not sexually active, but I have something that seems like a pimple where like my butt and pubic area kinda meet just on outside of vagina. Its fairly large for a pimple but there is no way to pop it. And from picking at it I have made it so sore. It burns and hurts so much to walk. There is a slight bluish colour to some areas of it. I'm just wondering what you think it could be? Is it probably just a pimple that will heal in time? Thank you!

Answer
Hi,

I think you have a Bartholin gland cyst. The Bartholin glands are responsible for producing a small amount of fluid to lubricate the vagina. The glands can become blocked, causing a cyst to develop. The cyst can become tender and, as in your case become large and cause discomfort when walking. Sometimes the cysts will go away without treatment, but as yours has become painful I advise you get it drained by a doctor.
