ObGyn/Pregnancy issues - tubular pregnancy

Expert: Cheryl Hetherington - 6/26/2009

Question
What rights do I have as a parent. My son's ex-girlfriend is saying she is pregnant. She said she is on marena birth control but something happened to the marena and she ended up getting pregnant. She is saying that it is a tubular pregnancy and today she is going to have her fallopian tubes flushed to see if the baby can be safely placed in her uterus.  I have asked to go to the doctor appointments with her. She will not give me the name of the doctor or any information.  I want to do the right thing but I am having a hard time believing any of this is true without any proof other than what this girl is telling me. Can you please send me any information as to what steps I can take.  Thank you.

Answer
Although this is outside of my area of expertise I can tell you that you need to seek some legal advice. I am not sure what the laws are in the state you reside, however you may have no rights to her medical records or anything other than word of mouth. Please try to seek some legal advice. I am so sorry that I could not be of more assistance.

Best Wishes,
Cheryl A. Hetherington
