ObGyn/Pregnancy issues/Cramps early pregnancy

Hi, I am 5 weeks pregnant and have started experiencing centre lower abdominal cramps today. It comes and goes and is sharp pain at times.

Could there be something wrong? I have my first appointment with my obstetrician on Monday.

This may be something benign or may indicate an early threatened miscarriage. Therefore, I advise bed rest, no sex or household activities till your appointment next Monday. This advise is as a precaution as a proper diagnosis can never be made on paper. Examination is a must.

Good Luck

I can answer questions about antenatal care, medical problems associated with pregnancy, labor and delivery and postpartum care.

Currently I am working as a Professor of Obstetrics gynecology, Menofyia University, Egypt. Since 1987, I worked in many university and private hospitals with a high load of pregnant population averaging 7-9,000 deliveries/year. This exposed me to all problems associated with pregnancy, labor and delivery. I had my doctorate degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1996 in the use of Doppler ultrasound in high risk pregnancies.
