Hi Helene,
I'd like to ask if planks are safe during pregnancy. Can planks cause diastasis? Can I do anything to help prevent diastasis? Any other recommendations about abdominal exercise during pregnancy would be most welcomed.

Answer
Planks done incorrectly (with out enough core strength) can cause a diastasis to occur.

Once the belly "pops out" then the abdominal wall doesn't function very well. Planks are harder than they look during pregnancy, as they also make the core work against the force of gravity.

To prevent or lessen diastasis, do abdominal compressions (Baby Hugs) and abdominal compressions with pelvic tilts (Baby Lifts).
