ObGyn/Pregnancy issues - About My Period

Expert: Lawrence Jay Rappaport M.D. - 9/21/2005

Question
Hello this is Shayna Again My last period was September 2-7,2005 and i was told that i ovulated September 14-17,2005 and i had sex on the 17 but i was told that if i dont receive my period on the September 29,2005 that i could have conceived. How can i have two periods in one month. Can someone explain this to me please.

Answer
A normal cycle is every 28 days (from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period) If you started your last period on September 2, tne you are due for your next period twenty-eight days later, or on September 29. You would have ovulated around September 16 and could have conceived if you had sex on September 15,16,17, or 18. If you do not get your period by September 29, wait an additional week and then take a pregnancy test.A cycle is every 28 days, not once a month.
