ObGyn/Pregnancy issues - Yeast infection while pregnant.

Expert: Roni CNA - 11/8/2004

Question
I am uncertain whether or not I may have a yeast infection or just labial irritation.  If it is a yeast infection can it harm my unborn child if left untreated and would it go away without any treatment over a course of time?  I am approximately 13 weeks pregnant.

Answer
Yeast infection sometimes resolve themselves.  If you like yogurt that can help as long as you make sure you are eating yogurt with live active cultures. (check the package)Avoiding sugar and drinking lots of water helps also.
A yeast infection won't really harm your baby, but it can be passed to your baby during birth, you don't want that, so you need to clear it up.
Talk to your Dr. there are safe things to use while pregnant.
Good luck and Congrats!
