ObGyn/Pregnancy issues - is Zofran safe during pregnancy/30wks

Expert: Amy, RN - 9/16/2006

Question
im pregnant with my 7th child, 30+ wks, ive been loosing weight, or not gaining any because of extreme nausia, vommiting, abdominal cramps, and occasional diarhia/ is zofran safe for the baby, and should i be concerned that something is going on, other than obviously being pregnant, i was never this ill with my other children,36yrsold?

Answer
Hi Maureen,

If it's been this way throughout your entire pregnancy, than I would say you are just experiencing "morning sickness".  Otherwise, you may have a bug, or if it is persistant and won't go away, you may need to be checked for appendicits, or your gallbladder.  Zofran is completely safe to use during pregnancy.  In fact, it is an extremely effective drug in the treatment of nausea.  They actually use this drug for cancer patients who are on chemotherapy.  I hope you feel better!
