ObGyn/Pregnancy issues - what can a baby hear

Expert: Cheri Purpur - 1/4/2005

Question
is it safe to put earphones on a mothers stomach so the baby can hear clasical music baby music if so is there a volume level which should be used?

Answer
Hello Suz- yes it is safe and a lovely idea. Place the headphones on YOUR ears and turn the volume up to just a touch too loud for you- then place them on your belly- the volume will be fine for baby as it has to travel through a lot of tissue and the amniotic fluid. All the best- Cheri.
