About Andi Cohen
Expertise
I am a surrogate mother so I can answer basic questions about surrogate pregnancy - the process, medical issues, the experience. I cannot answer direct medical questions, as I am not a doctor.

Experience
I gave birth to my surrogate baby girl on 06-06-06! I am officially retired as a surrogate mother now but am still heavily involved in the mentoring, legal and medical process for other surrogate mothers and intended parents. I am involved in 3 networks of other surrogate mothers and intended parents. I have been involved in the legal/contract/medical process of surrogacy for over 18 months. I am also a mother of two.

ObGyn/Pregnancy issues - what is this bleeding??/

Expert: Andi Cohen - 8/6/2006

Question
I got my period on schedule on June 26-July 1.  Then on July 12-13 I had very light bleeding and very dark brown for only about a day and a half.  Should I plan on getting my next period 27 days from the July 12-13 dates or should I be counting from the June 26 date?  I have had unprotected sex and am wondering if the July bleeding was too early for implantation bleeding or if it was my cycle just "readjusting" itself.  If I go by the July 12 date, I should be getting my period on August 7 or 8.  Does anyone have any advice?

Answer
HI Jennifer,

the July 12-13 bleeding could very well have been implantation bleeding so you MIGHT not get a period at all!

The dark brown blood= old blood that worked its way out. Red=fresh and new.

if your cycle is usually normal and regular, the July 12-13 exactly corresponds to when you may have conceived and an embryo implanted.

IF you arent pregnant, you'll get a period soon...

good luck! go get yourself a home pregnancy test to have on hand if you dont already and try testing after the 8th.
