Expert: Lawrence Jay Rappaport M.D. - 3/24/2004

Question
Hi, I had yeast infection and my doctor prescribed diflucan150mg.Two tablets ,each of them taken in one week's difference.I took both of them as she prescribed and the infection got cured.I took the last one on the first day of my last menstrual cycle. Now it is more than one week and I want to try to conceive this month. But I'm worried whether the tablets I took one week before can affect the fetus,if I become pregnant?Because i know diflucan is not recommended for pregnant women.can it be still active in my body even after one week?thank you.

Answer
The Diflucan will not harm the fetus or interfere with a pregnancy if you become pregnant after you took the pill. HOwever, Diflucan is contraindicated during pregnancy. If you become pregnant, do not take Diflucan. However, if you took it and have not yet become pregnant, the pill will not cause any problems.
