ObGyn/Pregnancy issues - dilation

Expert: Tanya - 8/17/2006

Question
i am 38 plus weeks and i am 2 cm dilated already. this is my second child, the first i was in labor for about 16 hours before i started to dialte. with this one do you think that i will have a easier labor and delivery, and do you think that labor will happen soon?

Answer
Deanna
Its normal to be dialating earlier. Your baby is probably heavier than your first and you should have your baby soon. As for easier labour well no matter what there will be pain and each labour is usually faster with each child.
My first one was 12 hrs and second was 4 hrs and third was 3 and a half. from my experience the faster the labour the more pain you feel because your body doesn't have time to get used to the pain. The upside is you get it over faster and you get to enjoy your baby sooner. Thanks
