ObGyn/Pregnancy issues - who is the father?

Expert: Lawrence Jay Rappaport M.D. - 7/29/2005

Question
I had sex with Person A on June 11 and June 17. I had my period on June 22 or 23. I had sex with Person B several times between July 4 and July 10. My period did not come on July 23 so I went ahead and took a home pregnacy test and it came back positive. Can you please give me some sort of info that would let me know if Person A is excluded as the father or not. any stats or data would help

Answer
If you started your period on June 22, then you did not become pregnant prior to that. If you have a normal 28 day cycle (from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period) ovulation occurs on cycle day #14. If your period started on June 22, then you would have ovulated around July 5 and could have conceived if you had unprotected sex on July 4,5,6, or 7. The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after missing your period. YOu were due for your next period on July 19-22. Therefore, Person B must be the father. You did not conceive on June 11 or June 17 because you got your period after that.
