ObGyn/Pregnancy issues - is it labor pains

Expert: Lawrence Jay Rappaport M.D. - 10/13/2005

Question
i was in the hospital 2 days ago for contractions and was 3-4 70 -1 and i am still having little pains but it is getting worse do i go to the hospital

Answer
If this is your first pregnancy, you should go to the hospital when you start having contractions at the level of your belly button that occur every 3 minutes (from the start of one contraction until the start of the next contraction) and each contraction remains hard for at least 45 seconds to one minute. When this continues for a full hour, go to the hospital. If it is your second baby, you only have to wait until the contractions are every 6 minutes but also last at least 45 seconds. If the contraction only stays hard for 30 seconds, you are not in labor.
