ObGyn/Pregnancy issues - level 2 ultrasound - fetal brain enlarged!

Expert: Lawrence Jay Rappaport M.D. - 6/25/2006

Question
January 27, 2006 is the LMP.
I went for an ultrasound 19 weeks on 6/16/06. They said I was carrying a boy. Said everything looked fine - I noticed that the technician was having problems measuring I think my baby's head. Then 3 days later I am called saying that my baby brain is slightly enlarged. I was very upset. They said that they were sending me to a specialist for another ultrasound. When I talked to them they wanted to know when my due date was. Mentioned that my baby's brain was mildly enlarged. I am very scared! Then they said that they wanted me to wait 2 weeks to see if my baby catches up. What does all this mean? Please help me understand what I might be facing? They said not to worry but can I believe them?

Answer
I do not understand what they meant about the enlarged brain. There is nothing to do at this time except wait for the next sonogram. Obviously the baby appears "small for dates". If your last period started on January 27, you should have been 20 weeks on June 19. You should be due on November 3. Just wait a few weeks and repeat the sonogram. It is usually for the baby to "catch up".
