ObGyn/Pregnancy issues - perineum discomfort

Expert: Lawrence Jay Rappaport M.D. - 10/9/2005

Question
Well I have a cut on my perineum and this happened the other night while having intercoarse. That area has been real sensative since I have been sexually active (4years). This flares up when I have sex with a condom. I am prone to get yeast infections and just treated myself for a yeast infection lastnight thinking this may be why it is extra sensative latley. At my last pap, 2 months ago everything was fine. No std's or anything. I have no children and I am 22 years old. I know you probably dont answer questions not dealing with pregnancy but I do plan on starting a family soon and it would be very painful delivery if I was already cut there. Do you know what it could be?

Answer
You may have a slight cut on your peerineum or it may be a fissure. YOu should let your gynecologist check it out. It will not interfere with deliving a baby and you will not have a painful delivery due to the cut. (They can give you pain medication during labor). I can't tell what it is wiihout seeing it. I would advise that you show it to a gynecolgist. It may be easily corrected.
