ObGyn/Pregnancy issues - sex after pregnancy

Expert: Lawrence Jay Rappaport M.D. - 4/26/2004

Question
How fertile are you after pregnacy in the first 6 weeks?

Answer
After you deliver a baby, you may ovulate again within 6 weeks and can conceive again. We usually ask that you do not engage in sexual intercourse for, at least, 8 weeks until you have your postpartum checkup so that the body can return to normal. I have had several patients who showed up at their postpartum exam and were already pregnant again.
