ObGyn/Pregnancy issues/when to start classes

Question
Hello,
I am approximately 20 weeks pregnant with my first baby. My husband and I are interested in taking birth classes, which are offered locally in 6-week sessions, as well as some type of breathing class (Lamaze or other). My first question is, when is a good time to take the classes? We don't want to take them too early, but certainly don't want to wait too late. Also, do you have any advice on choosing a breathing method? I would very much like to try a natural birth, and keep hearing that Lamaze is still the best. Thank you! Your comments are appreciated.

Answer
When to start is up to you really.  We took ours when I was about 30 weeks but it was only a two week course.  I felt kind of silly because most were much futher along, but I didn't want to wait and I don't suggest you waiting either.  My thought was "what if I have the baby early?"
I suggest lamaze, I took it with my husband and we liked it.  Sine it is a six week session I suggest getting in the next class, my personal thoughts.
Good luck and Congrats, it will be here faster than you think!

I was an expert in the Ask Jeeves area of pregnacy. (this has since been canceled. I had a rough pregnacy my self. I had toxmeia and an emergency c/s. My incision had to be re-opened and packed. I have read about all there is to read on pregnacy and birth. Feel I can be very helpful. I am also a Certified Nursing Assistant.
