Questionhi lawrence
i am 35 weeks pregnant on my fourth, when i was at my 33 week check up the doctor said the baby was breech and since my 34 th week the baby is transverse (the doc confirmed) which is really uncomfortable,i have tried all the exercises to move the baby but with no luck, she moved back breech for a day and then moved back transverse,i have tried to get info on the internet but there isnt much as its rare,i havnt got a low placenta either.could you tell me why the baby would go into this position and what the chances are of her turning, and if i need a section will i have to get one early and is there risks to the baby if i go into labour early as all my other labours were very quick.
thank you
AnswerThe risk of transverse lie and of breech presentation is the possibility that if you rupture your membranes ("break your water"), there can be a prolapse of the umbilical cord and the baby can die. For that reason, most obstetricians delivery breeches and transverse lies by cesarean section, usually by 38 weeks. If, when you arrive at the hospital for the cesarean section, the baby has turned (on its own), a vaginal delivery can be done. The cause of treansverse lie or breech is merely the arbitrary positioning of the fetus, due to your bone structure, as it becomes lower in your pelvis while approaching term. I would, at this time, opt for an elective cesarean section. It is the safest method of delivery.
