Question
I am 27 no children and my last menstrual period was the 7th of sept. i am not sure if I am pregnant or not yet as it is to early to tell. I have been on a water pill called burinex for 8 years for edema without it i gain aprox 9 lbs a week in water and feel very tired and an overall feeling of unwellness. I am trying to get pregnant .I would like to know if you have had any patients on water pills during pregnancy? my family doc didnt say if I should be on it or off it. I came off as a trial for 2 weeks and gained 10lbs. I would like to know the real risks of me taking this drug at 2mg once every 4 days. thank you
Samantha S

Answer
Once you become pregnant , we do not limke to use diuretics (water pills) because they lower blood volume. If  your last period started on September 7, then you probably ovulated on September 20 and could have conceived if you had sex on September 19,20,21, or 22. If you did conceive at that time, a pregnancy test should show a positive result 14-11 days later. The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after you miss your next period. Good Luck.
