ObGyn/Pregnancy issues - weeks-long mid-cycle cramps

Expert: Lawrence Jay Rappaport M.D. - 5/4/2006

Question
I'm 28 and the last day of my period was April 9. I have no children. Since around Apr. 17-20 (can't remember) I started getting very slight cramping in the lower belly. These cramps are very slight in nature and come and go during the day. I've noticed in the last 2 days they've been getting worse. Any ideas why I may be experiencing these cramps for 2 weeks? I have never had paid associated with ovulation in the past. My cycles are generally 30-32 days. Pregnancy would not be impossible (although not likely). Thank you for your help.

PS I have an appt with my GYn but not until next week, and naturally I'm a bit concerned.

Answer
When was the FIRST day of your last period, not the last day of your period? If you started your period around April 6,and you have a 30-32 day cycle, you would have ovulated around April 21 and could have conceived if you had sex on April 20,21,23, or 24. It is common to have cramps and sometimes some bleeding around the time of ovulation ("mittelshmerz ").
