ObGyn/Pregnancy issues - weightgain in third trimester

Expert: Cheri Purpur - 4/16/2004

Question
i was 94 pounds when i got pregnant and i'm 29 weeks and have gained a total of 28 lbs, Am i at normal weight or have i gained to much?

Answer
Hello Analiz. You need to gain at least 35 pounds to ensure proper brain growth for your baby- make sure you are eating LOTS of protein- eggs, fish, meat, chicken, cheese, yogurt. Also lots of unrefined carbs- brown rice, baked potatoes, cooked whole grains. Limit your intake of sweets and sugar of all kinds- only 3 pieces of fruit a day and little or NO juice. Hope that helps- Cheri.
