ObGyn/Pregnancy issues - weird hip stuff

Expert: Amy, RN - 7/25/2006

Question
Hello!  I am 13 weeks pregnant wtih my first baby.  However I'm experiencing a weird symptom that I can't find any info about.  My hip bones and around the back part of my pelvis all feel weird.  They feel loose and wiggly.  Like they are coming apart.  The hip joint where the femur sets into the pelvic bone feels like this too.  Is any of this normal?

Answer
Hi Kendra,

This is a normal feeling that some new mothers experience, especially if you are small-framed.  Your uterus is growing and your pelvic bones are having to shift and move to make room for your expanding uterus.  It won't be like this your whole pregnancy as your body gets used to it, but in the beginning, you can have wierd feelings.  Congratulations on your pregnancy.  How exciting!!
