ObGyn/Pregnancy issues - whats going on in my body

Expert: Cheri Purpur - 7/21/2004

Question
I have taken 2 at home pregnancy tests, and both were positive, and yet when i went to the doctor, the test came out negative.  What would be the cause of that? am i pregnant? And if not why would I have the symptoms of being pregnant?

Answer
Hello Krisy- none of these tests are perfect and I would tend to believe the blood test over the urine test. You could still be pregnant however and only time will tell. You should be having a second blood test in 5-7 days and that should help with the question. Not everything about conception and pregnancy is understood. It is possible that you were pregnant and it failed between the urine test and the blood test. You may shed the contents in the days to come. Hope that helps- Cheri.
