About Brenda
Expertise
I have been an R.N. since 1988 and come from a family of nurses. I have clinical experience in labor and delivery, as well as post-partum care and pre-term pregnancy complications. I have also worked in Community Health Clinics dealing with this area of expertise, including WIC (Women, Infant, & Children) clinics performing nursing evaluations and assessments in determining a need for services or intervention for pregnant women, newborns, and young children. I have worked in immunization clinics in and around my community as well. I also have several years experience in OB and Pediatric Home Care Nursing. In addition to that, I am a mother of two, ages 21 and 16, both of which I had hoped would be vaginal deliveries, but ended up being C-Sections... one of which had me in pre-term labor...another which was frank breech (bottom first)... one who rejected the breast... and so on... to list my personal experience would be a bit lengthy! I'd simply like to help anyone who might have a question or concern that I can draw on my expertise to answer!

I also want to let  you know that I just had a baby 5 months ago and I also started spoting dark brown blood 2 weeks after I had my period. I just want to know why am i feeling like this if im not pregnant and if I am why is it keep saying im not or what could be wrong with me. Please help thank you Ashley

Answer
Dear Ashley,

OK, if your LMP started on 10/10 (+/- 2 days) then you are barely late (2-6 days). It's possible that your hCG level is simply not high enough to register yet.

Your symptoms certainly fit with those of early pregnancy. If you are fairly convinced that you are pregnant, my suggestion is to wait another week and test again. Make sure to use 1st morning urine - upon waking. This is the most concentrated sample of urine and gives the most accurate result. If that test is also negative, you still have not gotten your period, and continue to have pregnancy symptoms, then you can go to your local clinic or doctor's office for a blood pregnancy (serum beta hCG) test. That will be able to pick up the pregnancy hormone at an extremely low level.

I hope I've helped you and I wish you good luck. Please don't hesitate to write with any further questions.
