Oboe/Moennig Oboe

What do you know of the Moennig Oboes?  And do they produce a bright tone or dark tone.

The Moennig oboes and in particular the modern ones are very fine instruments indeed. The design is overseen by Ludwig Frank one of Germany's great oboe makers and designers. He has worked extensively recently with Albrecht Mayer of the Berlin Philharmonic on the bore, the bell and the acoustic properties. He also makes oboes carrying his own brand name Ludwig Frank - the Brilliant and the Diamond are highly favoured.

The tonal envelope has always been dark as is preferred in Germany and the recent ones are certainly in that end of the tonal spectrum.

The Albrecht Mayer model Moennig is a lovely instrument.

The company have been in existence since the latter part of the 18th century with lots of sons and grandsons taking on the making of wind instruments. It was based partly in Leipzig and partly in Markneukirchen. It was a hugely successful enterprise.

Best wishes
