About Lindsey Visser Expertise I would love to help you with your questions relating to oceanography, global warming, marine biology, microbial ecology, and marine botany. I can also help with any questions about taxonomy of marine species. If I cannot answer a question, I will look it up or point you in the right direction.
Experience I have a B.S. in marine biology, and am working on a M.S. in oceanography. I am FDA certified for the bacteriological examination of seawater and shellfish. I have experience in working in a microbial ecology lab, culturing marine phytoplankton, and species identification. I have spent time doing oceanography research at sea aboard a NOAA ship.

We found a crab in our backyard swimming pool. He's less than 5 inches wide, reddish color, walks sideways and is missing a claw. We live in Southeast Florida, less then 1 mile from the ocean. Wondering if you could help us... Is this maybe a stone crab? Will he be able to get out of the pool? We found him in there 2 days ago.
Answer Hi sara!
It is probably a ghost crab. those are very common and can be red in color. you can find them in intertidal areas- they can live on both land and in shallow water. A stone crab probably wouldn't walk all the way up to your yard, it would tend to stay underwater in the ocean. He probably cannot get out of the pool and you should help him because the chlorine in the pool will not be good for him. I hope the answer is not too late! :) let me know how it goes!
