I work in the environmental research field, marine and oceanography. I focus mainly on human impacts (chemical, and ecological) on marine species and what can be done to reverse the negative impacts.

I am a published author of research papers in marine science and oceanography journals.

Subject: I need help on a report.

Question
I need help on a question that i can't seem to find.  i need an experts opinion
on how lead pollution in the ocean is harmful. i know that to humans it can
cause brain damage, kidney problems, reproductive system problems, birth
defects, low IQ scores, slower growth, and hearing problems for children. all i
need to know is why is it so harmful to our oceans?  please help me.

Well I am sorry to say that lead is not exactly my field but I will try my beast to point you in the correct direction.  This is a major topic and there is tons of research done on it.  Try doing searches for these types of things (lead LT50, lead in sea, heavy metal effect in environment, lead bio-accumulation).  Here are just a few links I have found.

Lead is a heavy metal and I know it bio-accumulates in the tissues of animals, and by doing this it will work its way up the food chain and reach the highest levels in larger predator (very similar to mercury try searching for that also they go together a lot).  Well hope this helps and sorry I couldn’t be of more help.
