About Lindsey Visser Expertise I would love to help you with your questions relating to oceanography, global warming, marine biology, microbial ecology, and marine botany. I can also help with any questions about taxonomy of marine species. If I cannot answer a question, I will look it up or point you in the right direction.
Experience I have a B.S. in marine biology, and am working on a M.S. in oceanography. I am FDA certified for the bacteriological examination of seawater and shellfish. I have experience in working in a microbial ecology lab, culturing marine phytoplankton, and species identification. I have spent time doing oceanography research at sea aboard a NOAA ship.

Question i got a few question for a home work progect
How long before animals start dieing out because of our addiction to oil and other fossil fuels?
what can be done to stop it ?
how can we stop it from happing so fast?
Answer Hi Koshini
Unfortunately it is very difficult to predict how long species will die out. I know that for coral reefs they are predicting 30 years due to the acidification of the ocean from increased CO2 into the atmosphere. Many species in rainforests and jungles are already gone due to deforestation and global warming. So how long? i would say it started about 50 years ago and will continue to happen. It can be hard to draw the boundary between what species are dying because of fossil fuel use (and therefore increased CO2 into the atmosphere), and other causes like pollution, deforestation, overfishing and things like that. To stop this we must conserve. We must use less fossil fuels and switch to alternative energy, recyle, and give animals their much needed protected areas and sanctuaries. We must stop cutting down their forests, polluting the atmosphere, and overfishing. Those things will help use slow this process, but what can be done to stop it completely? Extreme changes in legislation. We need to completeley change the laws so that these things are MANDATED not just recommended. I hope that helps!
