Question
I have inherited what I believe to be oil or mineral rights in Oklahoma.  I receive a small check once every quarter.  I know nothing of owning mineral rights or how to find answer for the many questions I have relating to this, such as:  Do I own Property as well?  Am I involved in contract?  Can you recommend any reading material or websites to better inform me of what I have?

Thank you

Answer
If you are receiving a check then you are probably involved in a leasing contract with an oil and gas company.

You can search the records in your county courthouse for any lease recordings associated with your name and/or property description (note: this process can be quite involved so you may want to hire an independent landman or abstractor to help you with this).

Also, here is a link to the Oklahoma Corporation Commission website.
