Question
My parents have me looking for the abstract that my grandmother had given the 1st gas company that drilled. Since then it has been sold.  Chesapeake has it now, maybe this is the 5th company. Of course it was suppose to be given back, but...... Would there be a paper trail or am I out of luck. And what government building can I go to to see all of the companies that have purchased the well? And any other info you can give me.This property is in custer county, okla. Short of having one made, without the mineral rights. This is just something they want. The property is not being sold.

Answer
Dear Cheryl:
Not sure you got my reply. There should be a recorded copy of what ever your grandmother signed (a lease). If the lease was drilled, and there is still a well, the lease is "held by production" in most cases. The well and lease can be sold.

The recorder of the county's (Custer) records need to be examined. If you are not there, hire a title company to find and copy the lease. try web or Custer Co.phone book for contact.
good luck
