Oil/Gas - mineral rights, selling your minerals

Expert: Laura M. FitzGerald, CPL - 6/27/2009

Question
How do I find out if my minerals in Caddo and Webster Parish have reverted to surface owner? I receive royalty checks from Hunt Oil for property in Webster. Also, if I choose to sell mineral rights, who would I contact and how long does it take?

Answer
Hello - Thank you for allowing me to assist you in your question.

Minerals revert to a surface owner after ten years of non-production.  However, if there has been production for 5 years and then there is no production for the following 2 years, but after the 7th year, a new well is drilled and production commences anew, then the ten years of non-production is begun again once production ceases to produce from the well drilled in the 7th year.

In summary, there has to be ten consecutive years of non-production in order for the rights to revert to the surface owner.

If you are interested in receiving an offer to sell your mineral rights, I would be happy to assist you.  At the time you let me know this is what you would like to do, I will then conduct a title examination to determine if you are currently the mineral owner or if the minerals have reverted to the surface owner.

I work with several mineral buyers and I will offer your acreage to them all and present you with the best offer.  This happens very quickly and you will be paid with a certified bank check - not a bank draft.

You can email me at lfitzgerald@iliosresources.com and I will be happy to assit you.  You do not incur any fees for my services, they are paid by the mineral buyers.

You can also call my office at 318-219-2464 and speak with Amy Lewis if you would rather reach my office by phone.
