Oil/Gas - Listing of Royalty Interest owners

Expert: Laura M. FitzGerald, CPL - 7/7/2009

Question
Is there a public listing (hopefully online) of RI owners in Arkansas.  I am one of many very small owners approx 1% due to years of interests being split at deaths.....my brother and I thought it might make sense with gas prices where there are to try to buy up some of these small owners.  Is this something the production company would provide (contact info) Stephens Production, Ft Smith Ark

Answer
Unfortunately the production companies will not provide you with their royalty owners data.  They would also like to buy anyone's interests for sale, so they would actually see you as a competitor.

I am unaware of a public listing of royalty owners in Arkansas, and even if there were, I am certain it would not provide you with the description of the property owners' lands.

The only way to determine who the royalty owners are in a producing well is to have a title examination conducted of the public records for that particular land on which the well is located which is very time consuming.

I wish I could advise you that there is an easier way.
