Oil/Gas/Horizontal well

Question
Can a horizontal well be drilled in same prior spaced acreage with producing vertical well?  Can they  encroach in the same formations?

Answer
First, it depends on state law.  Then, in Oklahoma, it depends on approval from the Corporation Commission.  I am not aware of any wells that encroach on the same formation as an older well in the same spacing unit.  There have been some odd spacing units being created, though.  You could have an extension of the previous vertical well into an adjacent parcel.  Why do you ask?
