I remember a song with this story line from the mid-to-late 1950's. It was a dramatic monologue by a man set against the backdrop of the even older Cole Porter song, "The Glory of Love,"
saying that love is supposed to be glorious but in this case there was no glory about it because she just used him for her "fine, fine, superfine career." I'd forgotten all about that one. I don't remember the name of the artist, but could maybe find out if you think that's the one you're looking for.
