Question
Ok, in the 1960's or maybe early 70's I listened to Philly
AM radio (WFIL and WIBG). Since you were in radio maybe you can help.  They used to play a couple of made up songs that seemed like a news person doing an interview but all the answers would be various cuts for popular songs of the time. Like a spoof on songs. I don't remember enough of the lyrics to search the web. Nobody else seems to know what I'm talking about.  Here's an example: Reporter asks: So tell me do you have any brothers? Then they would play a clip for the song, Abraham, Martin and John as the response and continue like that, asking questions and responding with musical answers. It was supposed to be funny. I have a vague recollection that one of them may have to do with an astronaut but I'm not sure.  Do you have any idea what I am talking about?

Answer
Hi Linda,

There were several "songs" done by Dickie Goodman, which are likely the songs you're talking about.  They're sometimes called "break-in" songs.  He would "narrate" and then insert a song clip.  Goodman's first hit came as Buchanan and Goodman in 1956 with "The Flying Saucer."  But he hit big again in the 70s with "Watergate" in 1973, "Energy Crisis '74," "Mr. President" (1974), and the top 5 smash "Mr. Jaws" in 1975.

Thanks for asking!  : - )

Dave
