Having worked in radio for over 30 years, including several oldies stations, my expertise is 60s & 70s music. I`ve long been a fan of oldies and trivia, and have a large music library and several great books as well.
Question There was a song that went - The girl I left behind, has been waiting patiently. And now that I am done , no more fussing and fighting for me. I am a soldier, a common old soldier, no purple heart do I wear on my chest. I thought the title was I am a soldier but I can not find it. Can you help me?
Answer Hi David,
The song is called "Coming Home Solider" and was done by Bobby Vinton. It reached #11 in 1967. The lyrics are below.
Home, I'm coming home,
Coming home from across the sea
Home, I'm coming home
No more marching and fighting for me
CHORUS:
I am a soldier, a coming home soldier
No purple heart do I wear on my chest
I'm just a soldier, a coming home soldier
I know that I, I've done my best
