Oldies/Original artist

Question
I heard the song "Hey Girl" but can't remember the original artist.  Can you help?

Answer
Hi Hank,
Great song. It was first recorded in 1963 by Freddie Scott. He had a tremendous voice similar to that of Jerry Butler. Carol King was a co-writer. It was later covered by Donny Osmond and Billy Joel. It is on the sound track for American Hot Wax. I hope this gives you a good idea where you might have heard it before. Enjoy and remember rock and roll is king.
