Question
Hello Mr. Bryd, I hope you are well.
I'm trying to remember more about a song from the early 70's...it was a male vocalist, a ballad type song about childhood nostalgia.  All I can remember is one line.....   "and Joe Palooka fightin'", he mentions all kinds of things about growing up, coming of age etc.  Somewhat similar to Bobby Goldsboro's Summer (the first time), in fact that's what I thought the song was at first.  I hope you remember the song I'm talking about!  Thank you very much!

Answer
Hi Barbara,

The song you're looking for is "Childhood 1949" by Bobby Goldsboro, which was the b-side to "Summer (The First Time)" in 1973.  Here is a link to a YouTube recording of the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trgMSd0d-r8 (It's poor quality, but it's the only recording I could locate.) Also of note, the song was covered by Burt Reynolds on his rare LP, Ask Me What I Am, also from 1973, which Goldsboro produced.  Burt's no singer, but if you want to hear his version, it's the first track on this YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ulksaXiKSI

Thanks,
Erick
