Oldies/60's Song I Believe

Question
Hi,
I remember a version of the song I Believe that I thought was wonderful.  My mother had the album when I was very young.  I can't remember who the artists were.  I think it was done acapella by a male group. It might have even been performed live.  I know they were a popular group also. I know it wasn't the Bachelors or Elvis Presley either.  I hope you can help me find out who and where I might be able to get a copy or download it from somewhere. Thanks so much.  Sam

Answer
Hi Samantha,

The only version of "I Believe" during the pop era to reach the Top 100 was indeed by the Bachelors so I couldn't say for sure what group you're looking for.  Frankie Laine did it way back in 1953, reaching #2 on the charts.

I have found other versions, however, by many other solo artists but only 1 group that might match what you're looking for: the Platters.  It was also done by Patti Labelle and the Bluebelles, as well as the 103rd Street Gospel Choir.

Unfortunately, back in the 50s and 60s it was very common for singers and groups to record other hits of the day on their album, usually with their hit single on it as well. So when it's an album from back then, it really could be most any group.

Thanks for asking!  : - )
