Question
QUESTION: I have been looking for the song name and remainder lyrics to this song for years. My musical theater professor gave it to me for a class exercise and I love it and would like to perform it- the entire song. These are the word that I know:

Funny stories never make you laugh,
Your heart's in two,
She's got the other half.
All you're left with is a photograph.
Love Ain't nothin' but the blues.

Never wake up with a smiling face,
always teardrops on your pillowcase,
Aching heart that nothing can erase.
Love ain't nothin' but the blues.

Way down deep in your heart
Hope is fading like a rose.
You're just playing a part
praying that nobody knows.

Once you lived up in the sky above,
sitting on a world just built for love,
Something happened and you got a shove.
Love ain't nothin' but the blues.

I'd appreciate it immensely if you could help me with this mystery.

Thank you.

ANSWER: Runita:

The song is from the 1920s and is called "Ove Ain't Nothing But the blues". The sheet music should be available. But is on a bunch of reissued CDs.

Here's link to hear sample from one. Scroll down to #21.

Glad I could help!

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Steve,

Now I could use some help locating the sheet music. Preferably for vocal performance. No site that I've visited seems to have this title.

Answer
Runita:

It would be from a Vintage Sheet Music Collector. Paul Riseman is very goo. He had it recently for sale and I'm sure he can get you a copy.

Use this URL and scroll down to # 28. You can tell him I sent you. He might make you a xerox since you only need a copy.
