Some clues that may be helpful:
I believe I may have downloaded this song (Unchained Melody) from the internet. When you mentioned Bert Kaempfert that may have been right as I do like his music and not many download sites carry him. I have been looking for his version but can't find it. Are you sure he recorded it and if so, how can I get a copy to examine?

Question -
I had  a version of "Unchained Melody" on a home made cassette,  I accidentally deleted the first 45 seconds of it and now I trying to find out who the artist was who recorded it. It's an instrumental , no singing whatsoever but there is whistling, It's not Leroy Holmes who did make a version with whistling.  Some  thought it was Les Baxter but all the copies I can find of his, has singing by his chorus. Can you help me locate the artist ?

Les Baxter's would have been the closest since no instrumental versions of "Unchained Melody" made the Top 100.  Back then, most artists recorded hits and popular songs of the era on their albums so it could have been almost anyone recording the version.  

I did find some possibilitites:  Chet Atkins, John Barry, America Film Orchestra, Banks Soundtech Steel Orchestra, Acker Bilk, Boston Pops, Richard Clayderman, Cinn. Pops, Ray Conniff, Floyd Cramer, Duane Eddy, James Galway, Bert Kaempfert, Henry Mancini, London Pops, 101 Strings, Boots Randolph, Starlite Orchestra, & Roger Williams.  They all recorded versions of the song.

Hi Jerry,

I also thought your clip might have sounded a little like Bert Kamepfert.  But now that I listen to the clip, it's probably not the one you have.  It's not Ray Conniff either.  I found the list of instrumental versions that I sent you on the All Music Guide site.  You can hear a clip of Bert's version here:
