I too was looking for a version from the 60's, I gave all my records away, but I believe the popular version that you remember was by Gunther Kallmann Chorus.

I think it's called "Shining Stars". I'm looking for lyrics online too for my wife's grandmother. I could listen to it, write it down, and translate but I'm too lazy. I'll leave that as a last resort. She's got the 45 which her grandson recorded as an mp3, but sound quality is poor. I have to see if I can clean it up with Soundbooth.

Had to memorize and translate Seeman in my German Class in the sixties.

If my memory is right:

Seman Lasz das Traumen

Denken Nicht an Mich.

Seeman Wind und Wellen.

Rufet dich Hinaus.

Deine GHeimat ist ein Schiff, Deine fremden sind die sternen, Iberia und Shanghai, Oder Bali und Hawai,

(can't remember the line, but its been 50 years.)

Und nur ihnen bist du treue, Dein Leben lang.
