The other artists that recorded John's song are Van Trevor and Cher. John was a friend of my husband, but we lost tract of him back in the 1980's. He was living just outside of Nashville in Smyrna Tennessee. He wrote a lot of good songs and was friends with the Nashville crowd. He was the up and coming country music artist of the year in the late 60's, not sure of the exact year.

My name's Neil Jefferies in London and I knew John Tipton when I lived in Nashville in the 80's. He had a great voice and songs cut by Tanya Tucker and George Jones and others. He used to work out at MTMHI (a mental hospital). I would love to get in touch with him. Anybody know where he is?

I have also been trying to find this recording. If my memory serves me correctly though, the voice sounds more like Cal Smith.

Spring was written by John Tipton, and also recorded by him in 1969.

I remember hearing the song in the 60's and it did not have the same exact lyrics ( no welfare lady involved ). It was done by a man but I have researched it and cannot figure out who did it. I know it was not Bobby Goldsboro as I would have remembered that.

I also remember that song. However, I had the 45, and it seems that it was earlier, as in the '60's. To me, the voice sounded a lot like Cal Smith.

This song was also recorded and played on the radio by both Tipton, the songwriter and by Clay Hart. It charted in 1969 by Tipton and later by Hart. Hart was a singer on the Lawrence Welk show and Spring is included in one of his albums. The 45s for both version have been available at times on Ebay.
