The song was recorded by Guy Lombardo & His Royal Canadians and is available on the CD "Into the Fifties."

First verse - when you're invited to a pigeon party, you're invited to bring the bread

Second verse - when you're invited to a poodle party, you're invited to bring a bone (bring a roast beef bone, a lamb chop bone, a dinosaur bone or one of your own)

Third verse - when you're invited to a people party, you're invited to bring a friend

Hi Nancy! If the record had a red label, it was on Columbia, and the artists were Jo Stafford and Frankie Laine. I'd say it was about 1953 or so, and the other side would've been "Hambone". The parties mentioned in the lyrics were a poodle party (bring along a bone), a pigeon party (bring along some bread), and a people party (bring along a friend).

The Let's Have a Party" was a children's song, and we had the album also... wish I still did. Here are all the lyrics I remember; though we have have invented a few to fill in gaps in our memories. I don't write music well enough to convey the tune in print, but my sisters and I still sing it.

You're invited to a Poodle Party

Said a little poodle on the phone

And when you're invited to a Poodle Party

You're invited to bring a bone

Bring a lamb chop bone, a pork chop bone,

A dinnosaur bone or one of your own, but

When you're invited to a Poodle Party, You're invited to bring a bone

Let's have a party, a party, it's a;lways very pleasant

For when you have a party, everyone can bring a present.

You're invited to a Pigeon Party

Said a pigeon who was underfed

And when you're invited to a Pigeon Party

You're invited to bring some bread

Bring a dark rye bread, along french bread,

A pumpernickel bread or any kind of bread, but

When you're invited to a Pigeon Party, you're invited to bring some bread

Let's have a party, a party, it's always very pleasant

For when you have a party, everyone can bring a present

You're invited to a People Party

And I hope that you will understand

That when you're invited to a People Party

You're invited to bring a friend

Bring a tall, thin friend, a short, fat friend,

A freckle-faced friend or any kind of friend, but

When you're invited to a People Party

You're invited to bring a friend

Let's have a party, a party, it's always very pleasant

For when you have a party everyone can bring a present.
