This was also recorded by Michael Feinstein on his "The MGM Album" - an absolutely wonderful version, I must add.

Actually, the song, You and I was written by Leslie Bricusse for the 1968 Movie, Goodbye Mr. Chips, and Petula Clark sang it in the movie.  Shirley Bassey recorded this song two years later and released it on her 1970 LP titled, Something.  This LP was a big hit for Bassey, and songs like You and I, along with her amazing vocal abilities, all played a big part of it.
