Subject: charging problem

Question
Ihave a 1983 buick lesabre and have changed the alternator twice. The car still will not charge.Do you have any other ideas what Icould check. The battery is new so it's not that.

Answer
Rick ,

Did you install the new battery before replacing the alternators twice ?

Installing an alternator with an incorrect payload rating for your battery could drain your battery.

Check the block ground , as well as the terminal connections to the battery and associated wiring.

A malfunctioning voltage regulator can cause the battery to overcharge or undercharge.

Is the alternator/battery pair correct for your car.

Just because the battery is new doesn't mean it is not part of the problem .

Rick if you have any more questions please feel free to ask . Don't forget to rate my response to you .

Cheers,

Ed McKenna
